“People enter therapy not to change the past, but to change their futures.” Dr Milton Erricson
As a counselor, I provide clients with the space, and opportunity to understand and make sense of their current difficulties in a confidential, safe and non judgmental environment .
I offer long and short term face to face sessions to adults and adolescents. The first session is an assessment. Together, we will look at the presenting issue, and any thoughts and feelings you have about counseling, whilst at the same time you will get a sense of how I work and whether or not you wish to pursue further sessions. Sometimes, it can be useful to take 2 or 3 sessions for an assessment if you are particularly unsure , or feeling “lost” , as to what you want to address in the sessions. Short term counseling (6-10 session) can be useful for enabling you to identify your difficulties, make some sense of them and find strategies for different ways of managing, for example, mild anxiety, some relationship issues. Longer term work is particularly helpful where the difficulties are more entrenched and complex therefore requiring further exploration, for example, long term depression, bereavement, issues with anger, addictions, relationship difficulties, and panic attacks . It is often useful to look at family relationships and history, as well as the current present day problem as they can be interconnected. For example, our attachments that we formed in early childhood, can affect us in the present.
Working from an integrative theoretical basis, allows for a flexible and creative way of working and responding to the particular needs of each individual client. I use a range of theoretical models including , Impact therapy, Gestalt, Person Centred , Transactional analysis, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy- CBT.
